The Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs basketball squad continued to play hard this week but came out on the short end of two games this week, losing at home to the Boulder City Eagles 61-48 and traveling to Del Sol on Friday losing to the Dragons 73-54.

The Eagles used the three ball to take a 17-10 advantage after one period over the Dawgs. Boulder went 3-3 on the long ball in the period to keep the Dawgs at bay. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 14-17 early in the second period but could not overcome the huge height advantage of the Eagles and still trailed 27-20 at the break. The Eagles were able to score on off offensive rebounds in the paint. Bulldog Cameron Noel had five points including a long three to get the Dawgs within six points 27-33 but only managed two points the rest of the period trailing 42-29 after three quarters. The Eagles went on a 12-5 run early to increase their lead to 54-34. The Bulldogs continued to battle but lost three starters to fouls and finally fell 61-48. Cameron Noel and Braden Bingham had 8 points each to lead the Dawgs scorers followed by Will Barnum and Brock Hughes with 7 points.

The Dawgs followed the loss to the Eagles by being dominated by the Dragons from Del Sol losing 73-54. The Dragons jumped out early outscoring the Bulldogs 38-20 after one half of play. Del Sol increased their lead to 61-36 after three periods before the Dawgs rallied in the fourth before losing 73-54. Bingham, Barnum and Koden Tietjen led the Dawgs with 10 points each. The Dawgs 3A Sunrise League record fell to 0-5 and 3-10 overall. The Bulldogs hope to recover this week traveling to Chaparral on January 22 before hosting Sky Pointe on Friday Jan. 24.
