The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog football team’s regular season success will be determined over the next two Friday’s beginning Oct 18 when the Dawgs travel to Sunrise Mountain High School to face the Miners in the most important game of the year. A win there will insure at least a second place finish in the 3A Sunrise League. The Bulldogs sit in first place one game ahead of Moapa Valley, Boulder City and Sunrise Mountain. Despite an overall 3-4 record, the Miners are 2-1in Sunrise League play. The Miners are led by athletic quarterback Demaurier Alexander who leads the team in most stat categories. Alexander leads a senior dominated team into this game. The Miners defeated the Bulldogs last year 28-18 and hope to play spoiler against the Dawgs. The teams have two common opponents this year as they defeated SLAM Academy 53-26 while the Dawgs defeated the Bulls 39-12 this past week. The other common opponent is the Rancho High School Rams who the Miners squeaked by 20-17 who the bulldogs crushed 62-12. The Miners were demolished by the Moapa Valley Pirates 37-0 in Moapa. The Pirates will host the Dawgs in the regular season finale on Oct.25. The Bulldogs will counter with the leagues dominating offensive team. The Bulldogs running game is led by Wyatt Delano, Q.B. Mebs Hollingshead, Wyatt Anderson plus a bevy of tough running backs. Hollingshead has put up some good numbers through air the past few weeks mainly to Tanner Fielding and Jake Hampsten. The Dawgs defense has been injury free the past two weeks, and are led by lineman Riley Waite, Jeremy Perkins, Tua Fiso, linebackers Fielding, Delano and Anderson. The game will be a tough test for the Bulldogs but the Dawgs are peaking at the right time.
