As you turn to the special section this week to see who won the 2017 Best of Mesquite Reader’s Poll, keep in mind that not many things have changed when comparing it to the results from the 2007 Best Of Mesquite.
While there are 12 categories that are no longer used, there are 12 categories that had the same winners as 2007 and 12 other categories that vary in results. Coincidence?
The repeat winners, who may or may not have won for the past 10 years straight, include Los Lupes for Mexican Restaurant, Bella’s Pizza for Pizza, Mason Street Courtyard for Best Breakfast, Katherine’s for Prime Rib and Wolf Creek for Best Golf Course. Other repeats include the Eureka taking the Best Casino and Hotel award, Fidelity National Title Company, America First Credit Union (who has won all 13 contests), Dr. Hartwell for physician and Dr. Blazzard for dentist.
Differences in 2007 include (but are not limited to) Fast Track Car Wash, Computer Help, Mesquite Plumbing (no longer in business), and Nini’s for nails. Boulevard Hair had won for Best Hair Salon, but they too are no longer in business.
Any way that you look at it, it’s good to see that many of the businesses who took the reader’s votes in 2007 still have a strong following today. It will be interesting to do another comparison 10 years from now to see who wins, and if today’s winners can keep their titles.
