The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog baseball team split two games Saturday afternoon and evening in the opening round of the Cactus Classic. The win over the Vikings from Valley High School was the first season opening win in memory for the Bulldogs. The evening game was a debacle as the Dawgs were whipped by their arch-rivals Moapa Valley 36-0.

Bulldogs rally late defeat Vikings 5-3

The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog baseball team showed their mettle Friday afternoon coming back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Valley High School 5-3. The win was the first season opener in the past few years by the young Dawgs. Four errors by the Bulldogs gave the Vikings a 3-0 advantage after two and a half innings. The Dawgs rallied in the bottom of the third putting three runs on the board on two hits. The Bulldog leadoff hitter Jayson Brooks reached first on a Viking error. Marcelo Lara moved him around on a single plus throwing error. Jayson Brooks walked and all scored on a Dillon Fuqua double to the outfield tying the score 3-3. Bulldog starter Cade Anderson settled into a routine plus errorless ball by his teammates to hold the Vikings the rest of the way. The Dawgs won the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, on walk to Dillon Fuqua a single by Jayden Perkins brought Fuqua in to give the Dawgs a 4-3 advantage. Bulldog Koby Smothers was hit by a pitch before Logan Felix brought Perkins in on a fielder’s choice R.B.I. Anderson pitched a complete game for the Dawgs and catcher Smothers threw out four Viking base runners during the game.

Bulldogs lose to Moapa Valley 36-0 in a blowout Friday night.

It was no contest Friday as the wind and the Pirates blew out the Bulldogs 36-0 in an embarrassing loss. The Bulldogs managed only one hit against the Pirate starters. The Pirates blasted several Bulldog pitchers for the win. The loss pits the Bulldogs against the Vikings ounce again at 9am Saturday. The winner will face Moapa in the Championship game at 1pm.
