It didn’t take the host Virgin Valley High flag football team long to reach pay dirt Tuesday night, Jan. 26, in the Dawg Pound in a 40-14 blowout of Desert Pines.

The Dawgs scored on their first possession on a pass from Kallie Graves to Madison Cheney for 33 yards and a touchdown. The extra point try failed keeping the score at 6-0 in favor of the Dawgs. The Dawgs scored shortly thereafter on a Dylan Bryant pick six for 25 yards and a score. Graves ran in the extra point making the score 13-0. Katie Zuniga scored on a five yard dash and a Graves pass to give the Dawgs a 26-7 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs padded their lead to 40-14 on TD receptions by Elizabeth De Leon and Bryant. The Dawgs defense shut down the speedy Jaguar offense. Hanna Haviland led the Bulldogs with 11 flag pulls followed by Bryant with six.

Graves again had a great day with 173 yards on 10-17 attempts and three touchdowns. Graves led the rushers with 77 yards on eight carries. The Dawgs travel to Tech on Jan. 28 and return to host Moapa Valley on Feb. 1. The Dawgs continued their hold on second place in Sunrise League standings with a 7-2 record.
