Mesquite Fire Rescue was alerted Tuesday evening of a Semi Truck on fire on Interstate 15 at mile marker 118. The driver was alerted by another motorist that his truck was on fire and he immediately pulled over.
He at first attempted to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher, but when that was not successful, he unhooked his tractor and pulled it away. First arriving fire units reported heavy smoke and fire from the axle area of the trailer. Firefighters knocked the fire down in less than 10 minutes after arrival. The trailer was heavily damaged but the cargo of potatoes escaped unharmed. Paramedics at the scene evaluated the driver of the truck for smoke inhalation and he denied transport to the hospital. The fire appears to be accidental in nature and is believed to be the result of a mechanical failure.
