Golf Tournament Scheduled

The 16th Annual Mesquite Elks Charity Open Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 10, 2015.  The tournament will be played at the Conestoga Golf Club, June 9, and the Oasis Golf Club – Canyons Course, June 10 with a 6:30 AM Shotgun start on both days.  Registration & Pairing Party will be on Monday, June 8 at the Elks Lodge from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  The Entry Fee is $170 per player with two person teams, which includes green fees and cart both days, tee prizes, gift bags, registration party on Monday, a luncheon and Dinner at the Elks Lodge on Tuesday, and an Awards Luncheon Buffet at the Elks Lodge on Wednesday.  Practice round is available on Monday for an additional fee.

The Tournament is open to all who want to have a great time and help raise money for a great cause.  You do not need to be an Elk member.

Players of all skill levels are invited to participate.  Teams will be placed into flights after the first day of play based on their score.  This means that the high scoring players have just as good of a chance of winning as the low scoring players.  There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place payouts per flight.  Plaques will also be given to the flight champions.

A portion of the entry fee helps fund the Elks State Major Projects within the region.      Businesses and individuals can also sponsor a Hole for $50 donation.

To obtain an entry form or answer any questions, contact the Tournament Chairman, Dennis Baylor, at (845) 321-2193 or the Mesquite Elks Lodge at (702) 345-2811.

Donation made to Safe Haven

At the annual Nevada State Elks Convention held April 16 – 18, 2015, the Mesquite Elks Lodge presented a check in the amount of $1,745 for the Elks State Major Project fund, which supports Safe Haven.  Individual Mesquite Elks members donated this money during the year through our Blue Pig “Hog Call” fund-raiser.  The Nevada State Elks Association (NSEA) raised over $79,000 for Safe Haven.

The Nevada Safe Haven law allows an unharmed infant to be relinquished to the proper authorities, no questions asked. The National Safe Haven Alliance works with states to promote these laws and increase public awareness that options exist. Together, the Alliance and states work together to save the lives of innocent infants and to protect the lives of their mothers.

Since the first safe-haven law was enacted in Texas in 1999, all U.S. states, as well as the District of Columbia, have passed safe-haven legislation.  Every state has reported lives saved through the existence of these laws, but because of less-than-perfect reporting methods, the exact number of lives saved is unknown.  In the past decade, however, it is known that these laws have saved well over 1,000 infants.

The Mesquite Elks Lodge is proud of our contribution to this worthy cause.  Anyone interested in making additional donations can contact the Mesquite Elks Lodge at (702) 345-2811.
