Three College Men’s soccer teams played spring games in Mesquite on Saturday at the Mesquite Sports and Events Complex.
It was a great afternoon of high level competitive soccer. Teams from Utah Valley University (Wolverines), Dixie State University and Colorado School of Mines (Orediggers) all played two games during the spring friendlies. Dixie State and Colorado played to a 0-0 draw on Friday night at Hansen Stadium in St. George, while UVU took down the Orediggers 2-0 in a hard fought match at the MSEC in the noon game on Saturday. After a quick rest the UVU squad took on the solid and quick Dixie State side. Both teams played strong with the Wolverines eventually defeating Dixie State 2-0.
All three teams enjoyed the trip to Mesquite and were very grateful to those that made it happen, especially Randy Laub and Lonnie Dalton and the City of Mesquite, Nevada for the incredible condition of the field at the MSEC. Additional thanks and gratitude go out to Utah Youth Soccer Association, FC Mesquite, Holiday Inn Express and Suites and McDonalds for making it all possible. The Dixie State and UVU players and coaches were also thrilled to have the opportunity to pose for a post-game photo with Mesquite’s very own Dixie Invitational and President’s Cup Champions, FC Mesquite Crush.
The Coaches from each of the teams would love to return next year and have expressed interest in bringing a few more teams and perhaps the women’s teams from each of the schools as well.
