My Uncle Joey was a true American hero and a Great Uncle who always new how to
light up a room with his bigger than life personality and laugh! Will miss you very much
Your Nephew Don
I new Marty from our days as Teamates in Coronado.during the early 80’s. He was quite a character, and had a most memorable laugh. As a new guy (aka FNG) I looked to folks like Marty to learn about the “old breed” in our Community. Fair winds and following seas my Brother.

Marty served with me in ST-3 and was one of those people who could definitely light up a room. He was always a source of sound advice for the junior members of the command, and a good teammate to all. “God Speed Shipmate!”
Marty was a teamate on the West Coast in the 80’s. What a great sense of humor, he always had us laughing, but more importantly he was a mentor to us younger guys.
He was good teamate and he will be missed. Thanks for the guidance and memories Marty.
Marty was the first person I met when I checked aboard ST-3. He gave me a warm smile and immediately nicknamed me “Hard Body.” I remember swelling with pride because I thought he was calling me that due to my very recent graduation from BUD/S, and that it was his way of reflecting upon the fact that I was in top physical shape. Later on that same day I realized that he hadn’t given me a nickname, but “Hard Body” is what Marty called everyone!
Over the next three years I grew to love Marty for his wit, his wisdom, and the fact that he always showed concern for others–especially the FNGs.
Marty, you will be missed. I’m so glad I had a chance to serve with you.
Rest in Peace Shipmate.
Marty was a wonderful Frogman, and I have many fond memories of his humor at Niland. We worked in training cell together, and Marty always had time for a story or advice. Marty was older than the majority of the guys serving but was in great shape. Marty thanks for the wonderful memories you’ve given me from my early days in the teams. Bill Wilson
Marty, regardless of the task, no matter how difficult or dirty, you always found a way to to make it easier with a joke. It stopped the swearing. I never laughed so hard. Thanks.
Almost twenty years ago, my Uncle Joey gave me a pair of boots. I had just begun the police academy. My uncle Joey gave me so much throughout my life but those boots are something very special to me. I later found out that those are the boots that he and his brave teammates wore in their outstanding service to our country. I still have them today. They’re a little worn, but I still keep them shined the way he told me to keep them. I’ll never forget my tough but loving uncle. Thank you for being there, Uncle Joey! And thank you for defending us all while you served in the U.S. Navy and all the brave men you trained and served with in the Teams. Rest in peace, Uncle. You’ll be forever missed!
