Saturday morning’s game between the Virgin Valley High School Lady Dawgs and the Dixie High School Flyers was a frustration for the respective coaches. Neither team seemed to want the win as turnovers were the dominate statistic. The Flyers rallied late for a 34-31 win.
The Bulldogs took a quick 2-0 lead but scored only three points the rest of the period but were still tied with the Flyers at 5-5. The second period found the Dawgs scoring 12 points to take a 17-10 lead after two quarters of play. Spencer Green had 7 points to lead the Dawgs.
Turnovers haunted the Dawgs in the third quarter as they could only manage six points to the Flyers 17 points and fell behind 27-23. The Bulldogs trailed 32-25 halfway through the final quarter before Bernice Fiso hit a two plus a foul shot to cut the lead to 32-28. Emma Barnum hit for two with less than two minutes remaining making the score 34-30 in favor of the Flyers. The Dawgs had three attempts to score but could not finish as the Flyers played keep a way. Abi Martinez added the last point of the night to make the final score 34-31. Green had 9 points followed by Metzger and Bernice Fiso with 7 points each.
