TUESDAY  –  BOB  CHAMBERS  BACK  FROM  THE  NORTH  WINS  LOW  GROSS

Well if it is October first the “snow balls” are starting to migrate south.  Welcome back Bob Chambers, Marv Gielen, Gary Denhalter and Dennis Simmons.  The MMGA opened it’s 2014 – 2015 season at the greatly improved Falcon Ridge golf course.  It didn’t take Chambers long to make his presence known.  He shot 36 on the front side and a not so splendid 44 on the back.  But his 80 was the “least” gross of the twenty players and he won it by one shot over Andrew Yeh’s 81.  Yeh’s score consisted of a weird 18 holes of golf.  After the eight hole he was shockingly 10 over par.  But the silence from his partners must have jolted him awake as he birdied nine, eagled the new par five 10th, birdied 11, 12 and 15 shooting five under par in that string of seven straight holes.  Clark Mitchell (82) tied Sterling Johnson (84) and Bruce Herd (83) for low net honors at 69.  Mitchell won out by parring the number one handicap hole 13.  Herd gave second to Johnson when he triple bogyed the sixth hole.  Fourth was won by Marv Gielen (94) and a net 70.  Tom Durenberger (85) and Don Mannon (85) were tied for fifth low net at 71. It went to the 4th handicap hole, the par five first, when Durenberger’s par beat Mannon’s bogey six.

The shot of the day was recorded by Andrew Yeh on the new par five 10th hole.  He hit his four fairway medal

from 220 yds out to within five feet and dropped his eagle putt.  A great way to inaugurate the new par five.

THURSDAY –  YEH  LOSES  GAME  AGAIN

Has anyone seen Andrew Yeh’s golf game.  A few months ago he left it in New York.  After an 81 on Tuesday and a 47-41-88 today, Yeh was talking to himself in the club house. Yeh was seen many times coming out of the woods to the right of the fairways.  “We thought there was only a threesome in front of us as many times as Yeh ran up to catch the rest of his group” kidded Dave Jordan playing in the group behind Yeh.  For the second straight day no one could break the 80 barrier.  Ed Hoepfner (41-40-81 almost did but was the least “gross” winner.  Dave Jordan (42-41-83 was two back.  The lucky low net winner was forward tee player Terry Gardner with 46-43-89 and net 70.  Two net strokes back was Teri Richardson (50-42-92).  Sterling Johnson (86) and Dennis Simmons (94) were tied for third with net 73’s.  Johnson would take the third spot with a nice par four on the long first handicap hole.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, Oct 7th at Falcon Ridge at 7:30 and Thursday, Oct 9th at 7:30 at the Canyons  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
