Sherman Fredrick/Properly Subversive

Talk about a state out of step. Nevada has two Democratic senators, neither one of which is, to put it politely, a powerhouse in the party.
But we depend upon them to go to Washington and look out for our best interests.
I understand that they both are on the wrong side of the Trump Revolution — Sen. Catherine Cortez Masos is our senior senator, and Sen. Jacky Rosen was just re-elected to her second term.
Both senators have taken swipes at President Donald Trump, which I guess they have to do as they were on the losing team in 2024.
But much of the ridiculous spending their Party has been party to in the last four years goes beyond partisanship. How could they approve of the spending that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has uncovered?
For example:
— $2 billion to a shell corporation linked to Democratic operative Stacy Abrams.
— $265k for a “food and nutrition service 3-day leadership retreat in Atlanta.”
— A $324k grant for “Increasing DEIA Programming for Integrated Pest Management.”
— $200B of COVID-Relief funds with little oversight or impact on students.
— $10M for “Mozambique voluntary medical male circumcision”
— $9.7M for UC Berkeley to develop “a cohort of Cambodian youth with enterprise driven skills”
— $2.3M for “strengthening independent voices in Cambodia”
— $32M to the Prague Civil Society Centre
— $40M for “gender equality and women empowerment hub”
— $14M for “improving public procurement” in Serbia
— $486M to the “Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening,” including $22M for “inclusive and participatory political process” in Moldova and $21M for voter turnout in India
— $29M to “strengthening political landscape in Bangladesh”
— $20M for “fiscal federalism” in Nepal
— $19M for “biodiversity conversation” in Nepal
— $1.5M for “voter confidence” in Liberia
— $14M for “social cohesion” in Mali
— $2.5M for “inclusive democracies in Southern Africa”
— $47M for “improving learning outcomes in Asia”
— $2M to develop “sustainable recycling models” to “increase socio-economic cohesion among marginalized communities of Kosovo Roma, Ashkali, and Egypt”
Sorry to go so long, but DOGE has uncovered $55 billion in wasteful spending in only 30 days. The items above are a small sampling of programs that either Nevada’s senators approved of, or let slip by without noticing.
They owe Nevadans an apology.
END OF DEMOCRATS?
Political parties ebb and flow, this we know. But have we ever seen a party crash and burn quite like the Democrats of late?
Think about the last 12 months.
The Biden facade started to peel paint significantly about this time last year. By summer, the lie that Joe Biden was “sharp as a tack” and a fit president peeled off completely. That was followed by the other “Big Lie” — that the Democrats are, well, democratic. That burst in front of everyone when the proverbial smoke-filled room of Democrat leaders shoved out Mr. Biden and elevated DEI hire Kamala Harris without a primary.
She went on to lose to Donald Trump spectacularly and Trump then piled on to the Democrat Party’s collapse by kicking off the most effective and spectacular start to any presidency anyone can remember.
On the world stage, he’s made Biden look worse than ineffective. Trump held together the cease-fire in Gaza and returned more hostages held by Hamas and other countries around the world. He has Russia at the table to talk about peace in Ukraine.
Trump, through DOGE, has made significant strides in transforming government. He’s exposing wasteful spending. He canceled crazy-asinine government contracts.
Look, the Democratic Party is discombobulated—Biden’s nowhere to be seen. Harris is a liability. Clinton’s got bigger problems with the Epstein files. Obama is looking out for Obama first. There is no national leader with even a shred of gravitas — J.B. Pritzker? You gotta be joking — and the Democratic National Committee just elected Ken Martin, a Minnesota weirdo who fully, and with all his liberal heart, supports the idea of his state putting tampons in men’s restrooms.
Barring unforced errors from the Trump Administration, I do not see an immediate path for a return to the mainstream of American politics. The whole transgender issue, which the Democratic Party can’t stop embracing, won’t cut it. Championing genitalia mutilation for gender-confused teens is another political dead end. DEI racism, as practiced by Democrats, can’t compete with the higher ideal of meritocracy championed by the Trump Administration.
And, if I see things right, the Trump Administration is on the verge of showing Americans not only wasteful and abusive spending but also full-on fraudulent spending, from foreign aid to green energy and to illegal immigrants stealing Social Security payments.
When that fit hits the shan, Democrats may never recover to a national party status.
