Jan. 2, at approximately 9:19 a.m. a Mesquite Police officer observed a suspicious vehicle parked in a casino parking lot. The officer observed illegal dangerous drug paraphernalia lying outside the driver door and the driver was slumped over the steering wheel.
The officer attempted to wake up the male behind the wheel, identified as 26-year-old Jacob Hancock of St. George, Utah. While knocking on the window the officer observed several more items of illegal and dangerous drug paraphernalia and multiple knives near Hancock. The officer was able wake Hancock up and had him exit the vehicle. Hancock was placed under arrest for the illegal and visible drug paraphernalia, and the officer also suspected Hancock was under the influence of an illegal controlled substance.
A subsequent search of Hancock recovered methamphetamine, heroin, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded and concealed .22 caliber pistol. Officers also searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded 9mm pistol which had its serial number removed, a .22 caliber rifle, multiple pry bars and bolt cutters, and a stolen license plate. Due to Hancock being under the influence of a controlled substance and being in possession of illegal controlled substances Hancock was prohibited from being in possession of firearms.
Hancock was charged with two felony counts of possession of methamphetamine, three counts of possession of heroin, three felony counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, one felony count of carrying a concealed firearm, one felony count of possession of a firearm with obliterated serial number, one gross misdemeanor count of burglary tools, one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one misdemeanor count of possession of stolen property. Due to the felony charges, he was transported to the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.
While investigating this incident, officers discovered Hancock had recently been involved in a crime committed in another state. That incident is still under investigation by detectives from the outside agency.
