It’s the week before Christmas and all through the house there are no brightly wrapped presents and you feel like a louse!
Don’t worry, we all have that someone who’s impossible to shop for gifts they’ll adore; but you live in Mesquite, there are options galore.
The Mesquite Fine Arts Center is right in the heart of the city with merchandise that is one of a kind; your giftee can enjoy a painting, jewelry, gift card set, ceramic or pottery piece made by a local artist for a lifetime and you can be sure they don’t already have it.
You may not get the chance to visit often but one of the best kept secrets in Mesquite lies just outside at exit 118. The new Flying J truck stop includes a shop called Quicker Liquor. It’s a charming little place where the owner has a variety of gift ideas from libations to wine holders in almost any style you can imagine along with other gifts that someone on your gift list is sure to enjoy.
The Front Porch Flowers and Gifts is another great gift finding place to visit but be careful; once in there, you may never want to leave. Inviting aromas, gifts, flowers and charm; Front Porch has it all. There is a definite antique country feel to their shop with modern flair. This isn’t your shop for that mass-produced merchandise; in here, you’re sure to find something unique and lovely.
Thrift stores are grossly underrated when it comes to Christmas but not everything you buy needs to be brand new. Do you have a friend or relative that collects anything? Thrift stores are a great place to find a piece to add to a collection; even complete some. China, silver and a variety of bric-a-brac can be found to complete, add to a collection or replace a missing or broken piece to someone’s favorite set.
Rooster Cottage is another option for “like new” merchandise. It may be used by it is in top notch condition and at a fair price. A piece of furniture, lamp or home decor is a great idea for a family member or friend that has just set up a new home without breaking your bank.
How about shopping our local eateries this year? Wouldn’t your giftee enjoy a nice lunch or dinner without having to do the dishes? Most restaurants around Mesquite, like Chicago Greek and Gregory’s, provide gift certificates in any amount.
Is your friend an artist, crafter, quilter or costume designer; Stitch-n-Scrap is a great place for material and novelty ideas. Star Nursery is a bit out of the way but does have a variety of living gift possibilities for that person who has a green thumb.
Don’t pass up the Mesquite Animal Shelter, pets aren’t necessarily the only gift they can provide; the shelter has a variety of winter sweaters, collars toys and leashes to keep your furry pals warm and safe this winter.
You don’t have to listen, my words just ignore; you can shop elsewhere; maybe drive through the Gorge, and get stuck in that traffic on the way to St. George.
There are hundreds of things around town in Mesquite, a hundred more stores that will provide you a treat for that hard to find giftee with two or four feet.
Shop local this year, gifts are not hard to find, so you can do Christmas without losing your mind.
