TUESDAY: PETRICK UPSETS YEH AT THE SPRINGS

The MMGA are back on the road again.  This Tuesday they travelled to Coyote Springs to take on the “Desert Monster”.  Bubba Petrick sent a message to Andrew Yeh early on.  They were teamed up together and when Petrick stuck his third shot to within eight feet of the par five second hole the challenge was on.  For the next four holes Yeh was heard talking out loud “so you want to take my low gross envelope away from me” over and over and over again.  Yeh finished the front nine with a 41 to Petrick’s 42.  Petrick took the lead back on the par three 12 with a “kick-in” birdie two to Yeh’s par.  Two holes later the match was over as Yeh recorded a “snowman” on the par four to Petrick’s bogey.  Yeh came right back on the next hole with a birdie three to Petrick’s double bogey six.  They would exchange holes for the last three but Petrick ended the day three strokes up with an 83.  That low gross jumped him into second place behind Yeh in the summer net tournament.  In Yeh’s defense, he had a 1,300yd disadvantage. The forward tee markers had just arrived at the course but were not put out yet and most of the senior player scores reflected having to play back.

THURSDAY:  DOMICHEL WINS FIRST LOW NET

Last Thursday John Domichel played his first round with the MMGA.  Today, one week later, he won his first low net.  Playing at the Canyons golf course, Domichel had a birdie on each side and scored 40 on both as well.  His 80 was a net 65 and won low net honors by one shot over Andrew Yeh (72) and three shots over Sterling Johnson (81).  Yeh shot two birdies on each side and scored a pair of 36’s for medalist.  Five shots back was J.P. LaLiberte with a 38-39-77.  Others scoring 81 were Dave Jordan and Tom Durenberger.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, August 4th   at 7:00 at Falcon Ridge and Thursday August 6th at 7:30 at Conestoga.  Always check your sig up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.

The MMGA are now two thirds the way thru their summer “Fed-Ex.” Style net tournament.  Andrew Yeh continues to dominate the standings and unless he goes to New York for the month of August he should win it “going away”.  Bubba Petrick made the biggest surge in July to be in second place.  Sterling Johnson also jumped into contention winning a couple first place points in the month of July.  Every position but first is open for the taking for numerous players.  That is the great thing about a net tournament, on any given day a good gross round will jump you over several players in front of you.  The last month will be a challenge with days at Conestoga, Coral Canyon and Sand Hollow.
