The Watermark Players, a group of accomplished musicians, actors and friends, sponsored by the Virgin Valley Theatre Group, presents Radio Gals, a musical comedy based in the 1920’s when radio ruled the air waves and small stations thrived.
Radio Gals was written by Mike Craver and Mark Hardwick and includes 20 original songs.
Music teacher Hazel C. Hunt received a transmitter as a retirement gift and station WGAL was born in Cedar Rapids, Arkansas. A wacky quintet of singer/musicians gather daily in her parlor to set hearts thumping and toes tapping with rib tickling songs, homey chat and plugs for a rejuvenating tonic that owes its kick to the still out back. Hazel’s habit of wave jumping to find a clear channel brings a government inspector to shut her down. She discovers the stage-struck accordion playing tenor beneath his bureaucratic facade and he is quickly ensnared in musical and romantic shenanigans. (Samuel French)
Radio Gals plays at the Mesquite Community Theatre, 150 N. Yucca St. on Nov. 15, 16, 22, and 23 at 7 pm and Nov. 17 and 24 at 2 pm.
Tickets are $18 and can be purchased online, at The Front Porch Flowers and Gifts, the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, and the Mesquite Veterinary Clinic and at the door one hour before showtime.
