Jean Strecker passed away on October 20, 2019 in Mesquite, Nevada, at the age of 102 years, just 10 days before her 103rd birthday. She was at her home with her children by her side. She was born on October 30, 1916 at Linden, California, the daughter of Frederick Cox and Mamie (Bailey) Cox, both of whom were descendants of early pioneers of California. Jean married Herman Strecker in Carson City, Nevada on October 22, 1938. They had been married for almost 72 years when Herman Strecker died at the age of 92 on October 5th, 2010.
Herman and Jean raised their four daughters on a ranch at Roberts Island, California, and then the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe near Glenbrook. They moved to Mesquite in the year 2000. Jean was a most loving and generous mother, wife and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jean Strecker is survived by daughters; Karen Derby, Vivian Thacker, Janis Doherty, all of Mesquite and Terry Noonkester of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. She is also survived by six grandchildren, William Ray Derby, Kathryn Cranston, Michele Clark, Jason LaFave, John Enewold and Wendy Clary, eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The Virgin Valley Mortuary provided the service, followed by internment at Mesquite City Cemetery on October 25th, 2019.
