Despite losing two games this past week, the Bulldogs are sitting in third place in 3A Sunrise League play with a 4-4-1 record. The Dawgs lost to Boulder City on Tuesday Oct. 15 6-4 and were shut out 9-0 by Sunrise Mountain on Thursday Oct. 24. The Bulldogs came out strong against the Eagles with Leon Weigel striking goal early to give the Dawgs a short lived lead. The Eagles countered with three straight goal to take a 3-1 lead into the half. David Baltazar got the Dawgs back to 3-2 to start the second half of play, but the Eagles scored two more goals to increase their lead to 5-2. The Bulldogs showed their mettle scoring two goals of their own on a penalty kick by freshman Zach Trimming and a running kick off the feet of David Baltazar. The Bulldogs had the opportunity to the match, but a great shot from Erik Solario was blocked by a leaping Eagles goalkeeper. The Eagles had the last goal of the game to win 6-4.”We had our opportunities to score,” said Bulldog assistant coach Jhonaton Pantalakis. “We had the ball 80% of the game but missed to many shots. It was a great effort but we came out short.” The Bulldogs have three games remaining, hosting Chaparral and SLAM Academy on Oct.21 and 23 before traveling to Moapa Valley on Oct. 31to finish the regular season. The Bulldogs will be counting on Trimming and David Baltazar who have 16 and 7 goals to lead the Dawgs in their push to the playoffs.
