WHCC Founder, Jean Watkins and Vice President, Carol Saldivar blow out the candle on the cake celebrating the center’s one-year anniversary. Phot by Teri Nehrenz

The Women’s History and Culture Center celebrated its one-year anniversary on Friday, Oct. 11.

In the year since it’s inception Founder Jean Watkins, board members and especially volunteers have pulled together some wonderful events celebrating women in Mesquite, celebrating Women in Aviation and most recently Honoring the Women of the Nevada Legislature for becoming the first state to have a female majority.

Watkins had a vision from the beginning and didn’t deviate much from what her heart told her was right, although the vision has grown and blossomed into something that she marvels at herself. IMG

The center is stocked with books to inspire any young woman’s future interests and histories of women who sacrificed, persevered, pioneered ideas and accomplished great things.

The center also offers a wonderful variety of free classes, a writer’s critique group, yoga, meditation, bereavement and grief therapy, a metaphysical book club and rock painting.

The WHCC is now working on a host of activities surrounding 2020’s 100 Anniversary of the ratification of the 19 amendment. Check out all the WHCC has to offer and if you’re interested in getting involved, everyone will welcome you with open arms.
