Jaxon Kazek received his Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor. He is a member of Troop 2488 sponsored by the Mesquite 3rd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His Eagle Project was building a batting cage at the Mesquite Recreation field.

His favorite merit badge was camping and his favorite summer camp was at Maple Del near Nephi, Utah. He graduated from Virgin Valley High School where he was a member of the show choir and theater. He will be serving a mission for the LDS church in Fort Collins, Colorado, in October. Kazek is the son of Amy and Mike Kazek.

Bishop Barnard of the 3rd Ward said Kazek is a great example to the young men in his ward. Barnard said,” The principles Jaxon has learned in scouting will serve him well and have prepared him for life.”

Maurie Perkins, his young men’s advisor, gave Kazek the Eagle Charge and had Kazek reaffirm his allegiance to the Scout Oath and Law. Perkins continued, “Jaxon, I charge you to constantly look for ways to serve and honor your parents, family and community.”  Kazek continued, “I reaffirm my allegiance to our God given constitution that makes America great, to assist other scouts in their upward climb on the trail of Eagle. I will make my training, my example, my rank, and my influence count strongly in my family, team, community and country. To these principles I pledge my sacred honor. “

Brian Haviland, district chairman of Virgin Valley BSA, formed the Eagle’s Nest and asked those in attendance holding the rank of Eagle to come forward and sit together. Haviland presented the Eagle Badge to Kazek’s mother who pinned it on his scout shirt.  Kazek presented pins to his parents for helping him achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Kazek presented the mentor pin to Ryan Toone who helped him and encouraged him to find and complete a project. Haviland presented Kazek with a pocket knife engraved with “Eagle Scout” and Jim Humphry, Eagle Escort, escorted Kazek to the Eagle’s Nest.  Troop 2488 did the presentation and retrieval of the colors at the court of honor.
