Dear Editor
Amy Marshall sounded distressed and pretty angry in her recent letter blaming President Trump for the shootings in El Paso. She’s certainly entitled to her opinion but I believe her comparison of Trump to Charles Manson and presupposing the supporters of both possess cult like tendencies was a little much. I have been unfavorably compared to various life forms in the past, but being likened to a member of the Manson cult is quite a stretch.
In addressing Trump supporters she states “Realize your mistake–we won’t judge you”. I don’t know who the rhetorical “we” are, but frankly that sounds a little cultish and makes me wonder whether we’ll be absolved before or after our internment in the re-education camps.
Unfortunately for her, her preferential candidate lost an election 2 1/2 years ago and she can’t seem to get over it. Nonsensical shootings are a shame and there are no easy answers, but they’ve happened under previous administrations and no one blamed the sitting President. Hatred is a powerfully devastating emotion and I hope she can get some help to resolve hers. Trump is not a lifelong sentence and unless he gets another television show she’ll only have to put up with him for a maximum of another 5 1/2 years.
Jimmy Wike
We have had racist Presidents in our past but never one who is as openly racist as Trump. He believes that being openly racist appeals to his base. Is that true Jimmy?
I completely agree with this letter, and know we are all entitled to our own opinions, the great thing about a democracy, to stereotype “trump supporters” and be so passionately against someone or something is just so detrimental. Let’s debate topics, not blame someone for something they could never hope to control and blame the people who think trump is the best choice at the time.
David you are so full of hate you claim Trump is openly racist but do not show any evidence. Put up or shut up.
Are you serious? Rapists, thugs, loyalty to Israel, send her back, more immigrants from Norway, Muslim travel ban, and hundreds of other examples. He and his father refused to rent to blacks. Shithole countries is another great example. You are the base that he is appealing to with his racism. You should be ashamed of yourself.
And today he is proving that he knows nothing of the global economy that has brought billions out of poverty. We have dozens of busses going past Mesquite every day with tourists from those countries. But to our idiot in the White House, sending the rest of the world into a deep recession is somehow good for us.
I am quite aware that my candidate lost (even though you don’t have a clue who I supported, Mr. Wike.) I am not angry about the election, I understand that this is how a democracy works. I am, however, flabbergasted that this criminal in the WH is still supported after everything (racist remarks, kissing up to Kim Jong Un, and Vladimir Putin, refusing to help the Bahamas, throwing paper towels at Puerto Ricans, who, by the way, ARE Americans, caging people as if they are animals, etc..) he’s done. Continuing to support this horrible man says more about the people supporting him than about him. Yes, I am angry. Not about the election. About how #45 has trampled on our Constitution.
We’ve been caging people since the beginning of immigration. Ellis Island had cages, just visited there. It’s not the fault of Trump, Obama or any administrator in our lifetime, immigration is the same now as it was when it began, nobody’s changed anything about the process, just the logistics.
You blame Trump for everything…why not the senate, congress or the rest of those who’ve had their hands in the ruin of America for a very long time? Our troubles didn’t begin with Trump, they began decades ago… but some have ended with him. People choose to take his remarks as racist, as I stated in a previous comment to you but he’s simply speaking the truth. Why is it that people are so willing to jump on that racist train every time someone mentions a different nationality; it’s no racist; he stated a simple fact; one that many news outlets and others have stated as well but Trump’s words were the only ones people call racist?
When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically.
The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people. It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably— probably— from the Middle East. But we don’t know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don’t know what’s happening. And it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop fast.”
In a former report: “White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed Friday that up to 80 percent of migrant women traveling through Mexico are raped.” Fact checked as true “Estimates vary, but as many as eight in 10 migrant women may be raped by transnational gang members, other migrants or corrupt officials on their journey to the U.S.”
You can’t call it being racist when it’s true.
Trump is helping the Bahamas…Trump DID send disaster relief teams to the Bahamas and NBC reported: “The Trump administration will not grant temporary protected status to hundreds of people from the Bahamas who have been displaced by Hurricane Dorian.
Bahamians can still come to the U.S. temporarily, if they have the right travel documents, but according to an administration official, they will not be granted work permits, NBC News reports.
Why should they be granted work permits? I don’t think that qualifies as NO HELP or “REFUSING TO HELP THE BAHAMAS”
Our Government continually tries to make allies out of enemies, always has…probably always will. Trump kissing up to Putin is worse than Hillary arranging the sale of 1/10 of America’s Uranium to Russia and profiting to the tune of 145 million to the Clinton Foundation? Can’t call one a criminal without calling the other.
Seriously, you’re using the paper towels against him? He was helping to distribute aid to those people, The folks he was throwing to them NOT AT THEM, seemed like a game being played. He wasn’t insulting them. Paper towels weren’t the only things being launched into the crowd…do you ever really read the articles or just the headlines? You and the ladies from “The View” have certainly twisted the act.
At least he’s helping them, Obama failed to provide aid to victims of Hurricane Isaac…nobody criticized him for not helping but Trump is criticized for helping. People don’t make sense anymore, they certainly are under-informed in some of the matters they are complaining about.
It’s all perspective Amy, if you WANT to see only the bad, you will. But it’s no worse than what’s been in the past and in this woman’s opinion, some things are much better. More things would get better if people would let this man do his job…he’s the only one who seems to want to.
