Congratulations, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce!

The Mesquite Chamber of Commerce held its Holiday Luncheon last Friday at the CasaBlanca, and it was a great success! The attendance was outstanding, the venue was great, and it was further indication of how much progress the Chamber has made in the last few years. Some of you may recall the Chamber Holiday gathering four years ago, when the proposed incoming Chairman gave a ‘doomsday scenario’ outlook for the Chamber and Mesquite. It was quite shocking, but in retrospect, it was a great wake-up call. The Chamber went through some major changes, and the results speak for themselves.

Thanks to the many volunteers, Board members, Executive Directors Brenda Snell and Carol Kolson, and the outgoing Chairman, Jeff Powell, the Chamber has become a leading organization in Mesquite, and a great example to all others.

Having been the Chamber’s Chairman in 2015, as well as a founding board member of Mesquite Regional Business (now MRED), and numerous committees and interactions with City Council and Staff over the past 10 years, I think I provide a unique perspective.

How did the Chamber’s success happen? Through strong LEADERSHIP, VISION, a PLAN, FOCUS on annual objectives, and great EXECUTION. Also, the Chamber’s extensive NETWORKING efforts throughout Las Vegas and Southern Utah have gathered ‘best practices’ of other Chambers as well as promoted Mesquite. Sounds simple, but it took a tremendous amount of heavy lifting to get the right people in place. At the end of the day, it’s all about having the right people with the right skills and the right attitudes……and holding them accountable.

Perhaps other organization leaders in Mesquite can emulate the Chamber’s successful revitalization. The Chamber has grown into a vibrant organization that contributes to the well-being of Mesquite.

I sincerely wish the incoming City Council, MRED and the Chamber great success! Mesquite can ultimately realize it’s great potential through collaborative efforts and a focus on the BIG picture. Who knows……given the ‘Blue Wave’ that recently swept Nevada, Mesquite may just become the ‘Palm Springs of Nevada’!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
