At approximately 10:22 AM, today, April 25th, the Mesquite Police Department assisted the Arizona Highway patrol with a stolen vehicle which Arizona Highway Patrol was actively pursuing into Nevada from Arizona. After a short pursuit within Mesquite, Mesquite Police and Highway Patrol units terminated the pursuit due to the safety concerns for the public. A short time later, the suspect stopped the stolen vehicle in the area of First North Street and fled on foot.
Mesquite Police, Nevada Highway Patrol, and Arizona Highway Patrol quickly setup a perimeter around the area and contained the suspect. Police also notified the community and gave a description of the suspect. The schools in the area were also requested to be placed on lock down as a precautionary measure.
At approximately 12:36 PM, while officers were searching within the contained area, the suspect was located and safely taken into custody.
The suspect, Franklin E Sanchez, 29, of St George Utah, is currently in custody. The investigation is currently ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, criminal charges will be released.

We publish the information as we receive it and that is usually after the fact, we aren’t notified about/during active investigations or pursuit.
Our office isn’t open around the clock; we’d have to pay a round the clock staff member to listen to a police scanner and wait for such things to happen and they don’t happen often enough to justify doing that, we are a free small community publication…the emergency notification system, which we’ve published in articles or press releases several times, is the best way for the public to stay informed of such matters.
