On May 15th, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Mesquite Police responded to an injury accident near the intersection of Mesa Blvd and Pioneer Blvd. A 55 year old male was in the process of walking across Mesa Blvd when he was struck by a Corvette traveling Northbound. Mesquite Police and Fire Units quickly arrived on scene and began life saving efforts.
The pedestrian was transported to Mesa View Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim’s name is not being released at this time, pending notification of family members.
Mesquite Police are still on scene conducting the accident investigation, and will be assisted in the accident reconstruction by the Nevada Highway Patrol. Only the southbound lanes on Mesa Blvd will remain open for vehicle traffic until the accident investigation is completed.
Officials estimate the closure to be until 4 or 5 p.m.
Updates will be posted as they become available.
sad..going too fast?
Speed Kills! A person hit by a car traveling at 35MPH is likely to survive death. The driver of the Corvette had to be traveling well over our speed limit. Sad.
There is a crosswalk there. I live a few blocks away and see drivers just ignore pedstrians when they are crossing. Not surprised sorry for the family.
Was the driver of the corvette arrested or is that driver at large?
Looks like the Corvette was traveling South not North. it looks like the pedestrian was hit before the crosswalk.
That was AFTER the driver left the scene & returned!!!
Why is the car in the center lane facing south?
The driver left the scene & then returned!!!
I don’t understand how the car could have been going North. The car is going the direction toward the Virgin River which would be West. When I drove by, the corvette was a good distance BEFORE the crosswalk. Something about the printed details just don’t fit!
Hello, the pedestrian that was killed was my uncle. My family is in disbelief over what happened and grieving for our loss. If you witnessed anything can you please get femme some information.
Every day when I drive anywhere in Mesquite, I am passed by people going in excess of 45 MPH, including one company van going 64 MPH on Falcon Ridge Parkway. If the Mesquite Police don’t have adequate resources to enforce the rules of the road, we, as a community, need to help fund additional officers. Something needs to be done to make Mesquite a safer community. My condolences to the family.
Please anyone if you have any information or were a witness to the incident can you please give us more information. The pedestrian was my uncle who was killer a day before his 62nd birthday. I don’t believe that speed was not a factor..
