Bulldog running back Elisabeth DeLeon #6 skirts left end on her way to pay dirt during the Bulldogs 33-28 loss to Arbor View Wed. night in the Dawg Pound.

It didn’t take the Arbor View High School Aggies long to hit pay dirt Wed. evening against the host Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs going 80 yards on two plays to take an early 7-0 lead. The Aggies would not trail the rest of the way as they went on to a 33-28 defeat of the Dawgs. The Bulldogs had no answer for the Aggies running attack in the first half of play.

The Aggies first score came on a 75 yard touchdown gallop on the second play of the game. The Lady Dawgs responded with an 80 yard drive of their own to tie the game 7-7. The Dawgs scored on a one yard run by quarterback Kallie Graves. Madison Cheney had over 40 yards in receptions to set up the score. The Aggies ripped off big chunks of yardage on their way to their second score to regain the lead 14-7 with sixteen minutes remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs responded again with a T.D. of their own on a Elisabeth DeLeon five yard scamper tying the game at 14-14. The Dawgs defense stepped up stopping the Aggies on their third possession forcing a punt. The Bulldogs opportunity was negated by an Aggies interception setting up their third T.D. to make the score 21-14. The Bulldogs attempt to tie the game was stopped by another Aggie interception with 1:25 remaining in the first half of play. The Dawgs stopped the Aggies on the first two plays before the Arbor View coach called a timeout with one second remaining in the period. Despite a prevent defense, the Aggies completed a 40+ yard ‘Hail Mary’ pass into the end zone for T.D. and a 27-14 lead going into the break.

The Bulldogs had possession to begin the second half and marched down the field to score cutting the Aggies lead to 27-21, the score coming on a 10 yard Graves T.D. pass to Cheney. The Aggies would not be denied as they answered with a T.D. drive to increase their lead to 33-21. The Dawgs matched the Aggie score on a 20 yard reception by Makenzie Leishman to cut the Aggie lead to 33-28 with 12 minutes remaining in the game. The Bulldog defense stepped up once again stopping an Aggie drive on their 10 yard line giving the Dawgs one last opportunity to avert the upset. It was not to be as the Aggies intercepted their third Bulldog pass to insure the win. The loss dropped the Lady Dawgs preseason record to 6-2. Leading the way for the Bulldogs defense was Leishman with 11 tackles. The Lady Dawgs face the Bonanza High School Bengals on Friday Dec. 16 ending 2016 play. The Bulldogs will face last year’s champion Boulder City to begin league play on Jan. 4 2017. The Eagles are currently ranked #1 in the Southern Nevada football coaches, poll. .
