The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldogs defeated Del Sol High School 5-0 Wednesday Oct 26 and tied undefeated TECH 1-1 on Thursday Oct.27 to finish 3A Sunrise League play with an 8-1-1 record. TECH finished at 9-0-1 to take top seed in the first round of the 3A Southern Division playoffs.

Wednesday’s game was a breather for the Lady Dawgs as they easily handled the Dragons 5-0. The Bulldogs jumped on the Dragons early scoring three goals in the first half and added two more in the second to win easily 5-0. Bulldog Abbie Barnum continued to establish a career scoring record with three more goals in the match. Elisabeth DeLeon and Kallie Graves added one goal each. Graves, Kennadi Ludvigson and Madison Cheney had assists for the Bulldogs. The win was a tune up for the huge match against TECH to determine top seed in the upcoming playoffs. The Bulldogs need to beat undefeated TECH by two goals to garner top spot.

 

Thursday’s game against TECH was all that it was billed. “Were in for a battle,” said Bulldog coach Bob Snell. “They are good and this is like a playoff game. No one has scored against them except us.” The Roadrunners defeated the Bulldogs 4-2 earlier in the season. TECH came out strong forcing a corner kick four minutes into the game. Bulldog star Abbie Barnum got a goal shot opportunity a minute lter that went wide. The Dawgs had the opportunity to score on a direct kick from Barnum to Kallie Graves but Graves shot just sailed wide. The Dawgs took a 1-0 lead on another Barnum direct kick into the box to Ludvigson for the goal. The half ended with the Dawgs up 1-0. The second was played evenly until TECH scored with 12 minutes remaining on a Bulldog mental error. The score stayed tied the rest of the match giving the Roadrunners the Sunrise League Championship. The Bulldogs travel to play Pahrunp Valley Wednesday Nov.2 at Bettye Wilson Park in Las Vegas at 4pm.
