The issue of clean indoor air has become an important one in our community. I have tried to do my due diligence to explore both sides and understand what the will of the people really is. The truth is that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Even brief exposure is harmful and has immediate negative health effects. 42,000 adult nonsmokers die every year from heart disease and lung cancer due to their exposure. So, I ask all of us to consider those statistics, and think – is it worth it?
We all deserve to lives our lives as we see fit, but when it comes to the health of Mesquite residents and workers, I think it’s fair to say that we must look out for each other, in any and every way possible. This means creating a local ordinance requiring 100% smoke-free air in all workplaces.

Right on Paul and Kathy.
No one including myself deserve to have to breathe the stinky skanky second hand smoke that is harmful and prevalent in public places including casinos.
One only has to look at the fat obese and usually unhealthy looking people smoking to soon realize it is not only harmful to them but harmful to anyone in a public place breathing there skanky stinky second hand smoke.
And yet these weak unhealthy smokers ,whom are the minority try to instill there unhealthy lifestyle on us, the public thru second hand smoke and its dangers.
SMOKERS LIVES DO NOT MATTER!
The publics non – smokers ,whom are the majority – THERE LIVES DO MATTER!
SMOKERS – KEEP YOUR UNHEALTHY HABIT TO YOURSELF- DO NOT FORCE US TO BREATHE YOUR STINKY UNHEALTHY AIR AND THE DANGERS THAT COME WITH YOUR WEAK UNHEALTHY HABIT.
I ALREADY PAY FOR YOUR UNHEALTHY HABIT THRU INCREASED HEALTH CARE COSTS PASSED ON TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
WAKE UP-QUIT SMOKING- IF YOU CANNOT YOU ARE A WEAK MINDED AND USELESS MEMBER OF SOCIETY – CONTRIBUTING NOTHING TO SOCIETY!
Wow… who are you to judge somebody for spending their own money on a habit that is none of your business? Thank Obama for your increased health care costs. I’m not a smoker, and believe me I hate going into the casinos to eat with my family & friends and come out smelling like crap, but I choose to go in there. But I have to breathe to live… boohoo. The last time I checked, this was America – land of the free… Here’s some free advice: check your grammar and use the correct spelling of “their” while trying to make your point. “They’re going to their house because you are not there.”
Brandon – WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK!
When someone’s habit affects my health – that is my right.
And that is great you do not care about breathing second hand smoke-
GOOD LUCK- you will need it not to acquire lung cancer or something else.
And yes ,america is the land of the free – BUT I WOULD LIKE TO BE FREE WITHOUT LUNG OR BREATHING PROBLEMS!
And what about the non- smokers rights – you are a sniffling idiot with your analogy.
And as far as grammer – who cares- you points are hillbilly dumb.
Obviously you care what I think, because you know that I’m right. What you whine babies forget is the Casinos are NOT public property, they are private companies who ALLOW the public inside. You’re about 20 years too late to be living in Mesquite and worry about all the smokers and your health. The healthiest people even acquire diseases – no one is promised a tomorrow – you can moan all you want and get hit by a car or die of a heart attack any minute, any day, so don’t worry about what others are doing – you have a right to see and think for yourself – stay away.
Fat obese smokers? Really? Do you even pay any attention at all outside of your tiny bubble? Most smokers are thin due to the fact that they smoke instead of eating. Over time smoking makes you lose your sense of taste and food no longer tastes as good to you. Weak minded useless member of society? Really? Apparently someone has appointed you judge, jury and executioner over all the land. Contributing nothing to society simply because they are fat, obese or smoke? Are you crazy? Really, are you out on some kind of weekend pass or something? Approximately 60% of America is currently fat or obese, yet we still manage to thrive. I am fat and obese, yet I worked all my life and raised a family, and yes contributed much to society. Smokers too usually have jobs, families, businesses. You really need to get a grip and just once think about somebody, anybody but yourself while you’re hiding behind your keyboard insulting most of the general public.
