Volunteer with AARP Driver Safety in Nevada.

Looking for a fun and engaging way to help your community, help make our roads safer, and save lives? Volunteer with AARP Driver Safety in Nevada.

AARP Driver Safety is an award-winning program designed to help mature drivers update their knowledge of the latest road rules and stay safer as they drive, through an innovative and engaging classroom course.

Cars have changed. So have traffic rules, driving conditions and the road members travel every day.

Some drivers age 50+ have never looked back since they got their first driver’s license, but even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills.

Those who take the Smart Driver course learn the current rules of the road (including some of the quirky new Nevada-specific rules), defensive driving behaviors, and how to manage common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. Those over the age of 55 who complete the course are also eligible for a multi-year car insurance discount under Nevada Law. The amount of discount varies by provider, so students are advised to inquire with their individual insurance company.

The program is growing both in-state and nationally, attracting enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers across the country. Over 15 million participants have gone through AARP Driver Safety classroom and online courses, taught by more than 4,300 volunteers.

AARP Driver Safety instructors come from all kinds of backgrounds – from teachers to retired police officers. They share a common interest in engaging community members in public safety, and saving lives in the process.

Volunteer instructors receive both computer-based and in-person training, and are eligible for basic expense reimbursements such as mileage to and from courses.
