GOLD TEE PLAYERS SWEEP

Bubba Petrick and Tom Durenberger won low gross and low net honors on Tuesday at Falcon Ridge. The “dry” heat is back! After 119 on Monday the MMGA players, those who decided to take a chance, were greeted by wonderful cloud cover as they teed off at 7:00. Bubba Petrick is beginning to really enjoy his move to the forward tees. Today he won medalist away from Andrew Yeh with four birdies on the front nine for 36 and plugged in a 39 on the back for 75 to beat the odds on favorite by three shots. Rick Scholl shot 80 for third place. Tom Durenberger 38-41-79 won first place low net but it was not as easy as Petrick’s win. His net 69 was tied with Russ Clark (84), Sterling Johnson (84) and Terry Gardner (88). As is normally true players should par or birdie the number one hdcp hole just in case of ties. Durenberger did just that parring the par four 13th. Frank Thomasino had the shot of the day. On number nine his drive was pulled left up on the rocks. He took a drop hitting three from 139yds out stopped three feet from the cup. Dick Swayne shared the shot of the day on 18. His third shot from 40yds out hit his playing partner Tom Durenberger on top of his head bouncing on to the cart path and rolling some 30yds down the path away from the green. His “header” cost him a press bet with Ben Bishop.

HALICKI SHOOTS HIS AGE AND ALMOST MMGA NET RECORD

Recent new member Ray Halicki took advantage of the great warm Mesquite weather and shot his first ever age. He recorded a two over par 37 on the front and a 41 on the back for his score of 78. Congratulations rang out in the club house as Halicki bought a round for everyone. Great round young man! When asked he said “everything just seemed to go right today”. One of his playing partners said “yes, and on the last hole he was so tired he sank a 20 foot putt with his rescue club for a par five”. Rick Scholl also had a great round of golf as he shot 37-38-75 to upset Andrew Yeh (78) for medalist honors. In fact Yeh had no birdies which may be a first for him. Pat Smitty, getting prepared for the move to the front tees in 8 yrs shot a 40-37-77 for the second best round of the day. Halicki came close to breaking the all time low net of 55 with his net 58. With the net 58 Halicki moved in to first place in the summer Fed Ex Net Trny by 234 points over Willie Nelson.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, June 28th at 7:00 at Falcon Ridge and Thursday June 30th at 8:00 at the Coyote Springs. Always check your sig up sheets for any corrected times or places.
