The number of building permits issued in May by the city of Mesquite Building Department showed healthy increases in both the number and valuation compared to May 2015.

The total number of permits at 103 increased from 85 a year ago while the value increased almost two million dollars to $4.588 million. The value of the permits in May 2015 was $2.663 million.

Permits for single family residences increased by only one to 16 from last year with the value coming in at $3.801 million. The 15 permits issued in May 2015 were valued at $2.342 million.

NRC home builders took out five of the single family home permits while Pulte Homes of Nevada took only four. Catamount construction company drew three permits for single family residences with the last four issued to private builders.

Thirteen permits were issued for residential modifications with a value of $157,250. Last year 14 permits were issued in this category with a total value of only $39,803.

One permit for a commercial building was issued in May along with six permits for commercial modifications including one for $165,048 for continuing renovation work at the Rising Star Sports Ranch on North Sandhill Boulevard.

Last year the city issued five permits for new businesses while this year only two permits were taken out for property at 780 West Hafen Lane.

Two demolition permits were issued by the city in May for work on private properties.

At this point in 2015, 399 permits were issued by the city with a total valuation of $15.329 million. For the first five months of this year, 500 permits have been issued with a total valuation of $22.998 million.
