June is Adopt-A-Shelter- Cat month
Looking for a furr-ever friend? Adopt a cat. We have many lovable cats and kittens that are just waiting to come into your home!!
Looking for a wonderful companion to brighten your life? Our kittens/cats live in foster homes, so we know them purrfectly well and are furmiliar with their purrsonalities and preferences. We can tell you who’s a cuddler, who’s a play mate, and who’s a lover. We know who wants to be an only cat and who wants to be part of a herd. If we don’t think the cat you’ve chosen is perfect for you or for your home, we’ll tell you. We want every cat to be a happy cat, and we want happy adopters too.
Also, please remember that adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment! Your pets depend on you to make them a part of your family and care for them through thick and thin. In turn they’ll take care of you as well with years of unconditional love.
The Mesquite Animal Shelter had many kittens for you to choose from. All colors, sizes and
genders. We also have some wonderful adult cats that are very laid back and would make a quiet friendly companion for you to have sitting by your side while you watch TV, read or take a relaxing nap.
10 Tips to Keep a Kitty Happy and Healthy

1. Like dogs, cats need to be fed good, nutritious food regularly, at least once a day.
2. Cats need plenty of cool, clean, fresh water. Adult cats do NOT need milk, which might make them fat and give them diarrhea.
3. Keep your cat inside your home with you. But keep him in a separate room from birds and fish, which cats will attack. Also keep him away from house plants, which cats may destroy. Certain plants are also poisonous to cats.
4. Make sure your cat has an outlet for its natural instinct to use its claws. To prevent your cat from scratching or tearing your furniture, trim his claws regularly and provide him with a small rug or scratching post. Verbal scolding can also work wonders.
5. Unlike dogs, cats do NOT need to go outside. Cats are almost always naturally housebroken and will use a litter box even at an early age. If allowed outside alone. cats often get lost or hurt and sometimes get killed.
Also, don’t leave your cat alone in a room with an open window.
6. Make sure your cat always wears identification, even if you never let him outside. Agile and clever, cats sometimes manage to get outside by themselves. Provide the animals with a comfortable, expandable collar and an attached identification tag with your name, address and phone number on it. Consider purchasing a dog license for your cat. Also consider having your cat tattooed or micro chipped by a qualified veterinarian.
7. Unlike most dogs, cats do NOT need to be bathed. A healthy cat keeps himself clean and well groomed.
8. Make sure your cat gets good veterinary care, including all necessary examinations and shots.
9. Always have your cat spayed or neutered by a veterinarian or at a low-cost clinic once the animal reaches maturity (usually after six or seven months of age). Your cat will enjoy a longer, healthier life, there’ll be fewer strays on the streets and you’ll be spared the hassles of a cat in heat.
10. Give your cat plenty of love and affection. Though cats are more independent than dogs, they thrive on your companionship.

Blossom is a sweet Chihuahua blend. She was found as a stray. She has “blossomed” from a shy timid girl into a friendly loving little dog. She does well on leash and is learning her basic commands. Blossom gets along with other dogs. We believe she has not lived in a home and will need to be potty trained and learn her house manners.

Laurie- young pit bull terrier blend. Very energetic friendly young lady.
Featured cat- Dolly
Dolly was found abandoned with her 4 kittens. She gave her all to raising healthy babies and now needs some love and attention for herself. She is friendly and outgoing. Dolly will come when called. she has beautiful medium length hair and a big fluffy tail. She likes to be brushed and told how beautiful she is. Her color are very striking and the back of her ears look pink.

Abby – Dilute calico declawed she needs a home with no other pets. Very talkative.
Nala- Black/white kitten approx 2 months old. Very friendly, playful and entertains herself with her toys.
All animals will be spayed or neutered prior to leaving shelter and receive 1 year rabies vaccination and city license. Ages are approximate.
