Mesquite Plaza hosted its first Farmers Market on May 27 to an ongoing crowd that topped out at least 100 at any given time. With 24 vendors in attendance, organizer Chris Reif with Frias Management said that it is sure to be an ongoing event in the area.
An assortment of vendors showed up to participate, mostly paying only $20 for their booth space while farmers with fresh agriculture only paid $5 per space. All three farmers sold out of their produce rather quickly, Reif noted. He is betting that with the success of this market more farmers will join as time passes as long as it remains as successful.
“For our first market, we thought things turned out well. We know there are some things to work on, which we will, but we look to improve and continue,” Reif said. “Thank you, Mesquite, for making our first Farmers Market a success. Most of our 24 vendors were very pleased and agreed to return.”
Several vendors recommended the market be held on the second and fourth Fridays each month, while others asked if there would be one every week because they did so well. The future of the market remains to be seen, but Reif guarantees that there will be more this summer.
