Bulldogs Abi Barnum and Katy Bingham continued to lead the Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog track and field team this year with a great meet at the Grant Bushman Invitational Track Meet at Moapa Valley High School Thursday, May 5. The Lady Bulldogs finished third out of 17 teams with 82.5 points.
Barnum won her specialty 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.24. She was barely edged out in the 100 meter hurdles and ran a leg on the second place 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams. Senior sprinter Bingham won the triple-jump, ran legs on the relay teams and placed fifth in the 100 meter dash. Bernice Fiso got a third in the shot put and fifth in the discus.
Other point getters for the Lady Dawgs were freshman speedster Macee Bundy who placed sixth in the 400 meters, seventh in the 200 meters and eighth in the 100 meters. Pole-vaulter Dylan Bryant added points with a third place finish. Emily Teerlink and Emma Barnum ran legs on the 4X100 relay team and Teerlink and Bundy helped the 4X200 meter relay team in their second place finishes.
The Bulldog 4X800 relay team of Julia Ramirez, Viviana Archuleta-Vega, Denisse Jimenez-Iniguez and Sarah Walters continues to improve with a fifth place finish. Emma Barnum had a seventh place finish in the high jump and Mikayla Brotherson finished with eighth paces in the long and triple jumps. Finally, Emma Wilson placed fifth in the pole-vault. The meet was a warm up for the Southern Nevada Division 1-A state qualifying meet on May 14 and 15.
Bulldog men place sixth at Grant Bushman Invitational
Virgin Valley High School Bulldog senior Kai Mitchell dominated the 300 meter hurdles and placed second in the 100 meter hurdles at the Grant Bushman Invitational Track Meet at Moapa Valley High School Thursday, May 5. Danell Wilkins had a third in the same event and Dallen Wolfe took fifth place. Nick Cox had a fourth in the 800 meter run. The 4X100 team of Cox, Mitchell, Wolfe and Pedro Osuna ran well with a third place finish. The Bulldogs finished with 56.5 points.
