There might have been a cold wind blowing Saturday morning, March 26 at Marilyn Redd Park in Mesquite but the squeals of delight from children gathering Easter eggs quickly warmed the heart.

Hundreds of kids stood at the starting line waiting for the go-ahead to run towards the colorful eggs scattered in the grass by the Las Vegas Summerlin Lions Club. Some carried traditional Easter baskets decked out in bling while others just used plastic bags. It didn’t matter as kids divided into age groups rushed through the lawn grabbing candy-filled plastic eggs. Those finding golden eggs got a bonus gift fit for their age group.

In years past the Mesquite Virgin Valley Lions Club hosted the annual event. Since the club was disbanded in 2015, Bill and Judi DePew who live in Mesquite made sure the tradition continued in the community through the Las Vegas Summerlin Lions Club.
