The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog wrestling team dominated the 1-A Southern Region wrestling meet in lower class weights Saturday, Feb. 13 at Spring Valley High School finishing in third place with 159 points. Mojave Rattlers finished first with 212 points followed closely by Boulder City with 177 points. The Bulldogs had the most first place winners in the tournament with four. Bulldogs moving on to the state tournament Feb. 20 in Primm, Nevada.
Ty Smith got the ball rolling for the Dawgs in the 106 lbs. class pinning his opponents in the quarters, semifinals and final defeating Boulder City’s Garrett Leavitt in 1:12 minutes. Bulldog freshman Gage Woods lost his quarterfinal match.
The Bulldogs Vicente Pinto lost his semifinal match at 113 lbs. Teammate Angel De Santiago lost in the quarterfinal.
Bulldog Jacob Baird ran roughshod over his opponents in the 120 lb. class winning all matches on pins.
Crescent Crandall continued his winning ways at 152 lbs. winning a close decision 6-5 over his Moapa Valley opponent. Crandall won his semifinal match in a quick .18 fall.
Bulldogs Rafael De Santiago and Marlan Felshaw lost their quarterfinal matches on decisions at 160 lbs. and 170 lbs. respectively.
Bulldog Cache Burnside, despite starting late in the season won on a fall to take the 182 lbs. class.
Bulldog Arden Bundy lost to eventual winner Don Phillips at 220 lbs. in the quarterfinals.
