The Virgin Valley High School Gridiron Gals defeated Chaparral High School Cowboys 13-6 in a defensive struggle Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 10 in Las Vegas. The win clinched third place in 1-A Sunrise League play.

The Lady Dawgs travel to Del Sol High School Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 16 to face the Dragons in the first round of the playoffs. The Dragons placed second in the Sunrise League with an 11-3 record. The Dawgs finished at 10-4.

The winners of the first round match up in the second and then the champions of each league face off. The winner of the Bulldog-Dragon game will probably face Southern Nevada’s top flag football team Boulder City in the championship round. The Lady Dawgs lost to Boulder City 39-0 and 18-0 this year while the Dragons did not fare much better losing by 27-6 and 39-0 on Tuesday.

In Wednesday’s game against the Cowboys, the Bulldogs managed a running touchdown by Katie Zuniga and a passing T.D. from Dylan Bryant to Madison Cheney. All scores were in the first half of play.

Bulldog quarterback Kallie Graves had another low yardage day with 76 yards on 6-18 attempts. The rushing game was led by Katie Zuniga with 65 yards and Elisabeth De Leon with 52 yards. Bryant and Madison Cheney had another strong defensive effort for the Lady Dawgs with 10 and 9 pulls respectively.
