The annual Can/Am Softball Tournament returned to Mesquite the past two weekends. The Can/Am tourney pits slo-pitch softball teams from Canada and the United States in age category play. Players from age 50 to 80 participated during weekends.

“We have 34 teams of approximately 15 players each competing this year,” said Tournament Director Terri Rylander. “All the players love coming to Mesquite and love the weather. We have teams from as far away as Florida and Alberta Canada. Our own ‘Geezers Team’, are playing this morning and have a 2-0 record in tournament play.”

Most of the teams played in the recently completed Worlds Championship. They say age is but a number; this cliché is proved on the diamond as players from 55 to 80 years of age seem to be enjoying their ‘golden years’ with unbridled enthusiasm.
