Pouring rain and cold weather didn’t keep members of the Mesquite Classic Car Club from traveling to St. George last Saturday to attend the 10th annual Desert Rodders car show. The event, which is a benefit for the Southern Utah Veteran’s Home, was well attended despite the poor weather.

The Mesquite Classic Car Club efforts were well rewarded with members winning two sponsors trophies and the overall best in show award.

Big winners for Mesquite Classic Car Club were Tom and Jayne Fulton, who won both a sponsors trophy from St. George Muffler and Radiator and the “Rodders Choice” best in show award for their 1962 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk. According to the Studebaker Hawk Registry, only about 900 of the Gran Turismo Hawks are still in existence.

Another Mesquite Classic Car Club winner was Ed Stoiber, also of Mesquite, who won a sponsor’s trophy from Star Valley Paving of St. George. Stoiber’s winning entry was a 1955 Chevy coupe that looked better than the day it came off the assembly line.

The annual event, known as “Rock’n the Redrocks” was held at the Tuacahn theater center in Ivins, Utah.
