Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jose Luis Castro, 34, of St. George, Utah, Friday (5/8) morning.  Deputies observed a vehicle traveling with a cracked windshield. Approximately 7:10 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 15 at milepost 12.  Deputies contacted the driver and two passengers. During contact with the front seated male passenger, deputies observed the passenger was uncertain of his age and birthdate.  The male passenger falsely identified himself.  The male subject was taken into custody without incident.  He was transported and booked into the Mesquite Jail.  Eventually, deputies determined the male subject’s identity to be Castro.  During conversations with Castro, he said that he was deported before because he had sex with a minor.  Further conversations with Castro, he said that he doesn’t think he completed his probation on that offense and he may have a warrant.  A criminal history check showed Castro had been arrested and convicted for a rape of a minor and sexual assault in 2001.  He was also previously deported from the United States.  With the assistance of Border Patrol, they confirmed Castro was in fact in the country illegally.  Border Patrol placed a detainer onCastro.  The driver was issued a warning for the windshield.
