TUESDAY: MEYER COMES UP TWO SHOTS SHORT OF YEH
John Meyer had a great start to upset Andrew Yeh on Tuesday at Falcon Ridge. His front nine was an even par 35 to Yeh’s two over 37 heading to the back side. Meyer’s double bogey on the 10th hole and Yeh’s nice eagle three on the par five 16th was the difference as Meyer ended his day with a 41 for 77 and Yeh played his back side one over par 38 for a two stroke victory at 75. Bill Schnick had an off day as he recorded a 37-42-79 for third place. The next best rounds were a bunch of players with 83. Meyer’s day was not all for naught as his 77 gave him a net 66 to win low net honors. Just one shot back of Meyer was Sterling Johnson’s (84) that was a net 67 for second place. One shot back of that was net 68 scored by Don Mannon (83). Tom Durenberger (83) took the 4th low net with his 70. Fifth place was won on the second handicap hole by Pat Smitty (87) when he bogeyed the 13th but managed a nice par on hole six. Tied with Smitty was Dave Miller another of those 83’s but he bogeyed 13 and hole 6 for the sixth and last spot.
THURSDAY: SPRING WINDS BLOW UP SCORES
If it is spring time in Mesquite you can expect it to be windy and it was on Thursday at the Palms golf course. No one was able to shoot under 80. Andrew Yeh, with little concentration do to limited competition, waltzed around the course recording only one birdie on the 17th hole for his 39-41-80 medalist award. Two shots back was Jason Richmond at 41-41-82. From there the scores elevated rapidly. The poor golf was evidenced in the low nets as Sterling Johnson, coming off a good round on Tuesday, shot 87 and won low net honors with his 72. Joel Reilly (91) had him tied with his own net 72 but his double bogey on the 4th hole dropped him into second low net. Russ Bonacci and Willie Nelson with gross 93 were tied for third low net at 73. Bonacci took third with a bogey to Nelson’s double. Delbert Moore (89), Jason Richmond (82) and Tom Durenberger (86) all had net 74’s. Moore’s nice par five won him the fifth spot and Richmond got 6th with his bogey. Gary Denhalter won hole of the day twice. His drive on the 10th hole sliced over onto the first tee box and he managed to get his par. On the par five 15th his second shot stopped under and next to a large tree. His low chip under the limbs landed on the green where he two putted for another great par.
