SEVENTY IS THE NUMBER OF THE DAY

The high temp on Tuesday was 70.  Five MMGA players recorded scores in the 70’s.  There was a five way tie with net 70 for the last two net payoff positions at the end of the day.  The on again off again contest for medalist was on again for the top three MMGA members.  Dave Jordan is feeling better using the same set of irons he has traded in twice before.  Today using those “used” clubs, he shot a nice 37-39-76.  His normal rivalries, Andrew Yeh, shot a pair of 38’s to tie Jordan, and Jon Hawkins was just one shot back with 35-42-77.  Jordan took the title with his par on 13 as Yeh succumbed to a double bogey.  Jason Richmond shot 78 and new member, Jeff Hoyt shot 79.

Russ Clark continues his hot streak with low net honors four the third time in the last four outings.  Today he shot 86 for net 64.  Three shots back was Ray Rodgers (88) with his best round in some time.  Dan Trower (91), Pat Smitty (86) and Hoyt were tied for third with net 69.  Trower won third with a bogey and a nice birdie on hole six.  Hoyt took fourth going bogey, bogey and Smitty had fifth out of the chute when he double bogeyed the first handicap hole.  Tom Durenberger (83) led the string of five players with net 70’s followed by Gary Denhalter (87), Joel Reilly (92), Lou Roney (84) and Yeh.  Durenberger earned 6th place with a nice par on 13 and Denhalter took the last spot going bogey, par, par.

The hole of the day was turned in by Bubba Petrick on hole seven.  He pulled his drive to the left into the rocks and trees.  He chipped out backwards through a narrow opening in the bushes.  He hit his third shot down the fairway into the right bunker where he hit his fourth shot short of the green.  Scrapped his fifth shot over the green and down the hill.   From there he chipped back up the hill onto the green and rolled the ball down the slope some 40ft breaking right to left into the jar for an interesting bogey.

SCHNICK EDGES HENDRICKS BY ONE SHOT

Bill Schnick playing like a smooth mature aged wine took on all comers on Thursday at the CasaBlanca golf course.  He had three birdies including holes two and three on his way to a 37-39 two over par 76 at the age of 84.  Yes, even golf can get sweeter with age.  Neil Hendricks was only one shot back with his fine round of 38-39-77.  Playing partners Paul Le Van and Jon Hawkins both were one shot back with 78’s.  Hendricks was rewarded with first place low net at 66.  Bubba Petrick showed signs of coming back from his two year excursion with four surgeries as he played his best round firing a 83 and net 67 for second place.  His playing partner Ed Hoepfner (80) playing on his home course, was tied for third with Jim Anderson (91) and Ben Bishop (83) with 69.  Hoepfner took third when he went bogey, par.  Anderson got fourth when he scored bogey, bogey while Bishop double bogeyed the first handicap hole for fifth.  Delbert Moore (86) and net 70 won the tie for 6th place from LeVan.
