Adding to the monstrous crowds generated by Motor Mania this past weekend, Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA) held their annual Presidents Cup Championship at Mesquite and Bunkerville sports facilities. Over 2000 young soccer players representing 121 teams throughout Utah battled in age groups 12-18 years to determine President Cup winners. Every available sport facility in the Mesquite area was used as the teams battled through four rounds.

The matches started at 7:30 a.m. and ended at 10:30 p.m. The Mesquite Sports and Events Center hosted 20 matches at a time and served as event headquarters and final championship stage. Mesquite FC Soccer Club hosted the event and supplied 50 volunteers during the three days of play. The President Cup play will continue next weekend as a like number of soccer players representing the 9-11 age groups will take over all sporting venues in Mesquite.

“This is a great event for the economic health of Mesquite,” said Utah Youth Soccer Representative Terry Ogden. “Mesquite will have four teams in play next weekend.” No doubt he was correct as restaurants and hotels were filled with our friends from the North.
