TUESDAY:   SCRAMBLE TOURNAMENT PREPARES MMGA FOR CHRISTMAS

The last tournament for the MMGA before the Holidays was a four person scramble at Falcon Ridge.  The team of Jon Hawkins, David Miller, Ben Bishop and Russ Clark embarrassed the rest of the field with a ridiculous 16 under par 56.  The teams consisted of a player from group A, B , C and D based on their handicap index.  The team had one eagle and 14 birdies from hole three thru hole 16.  Ben Bishop said, Jon Hawkins, this year’s Club Champion, only had to putt three times”.  That means one of two things, either the other three putted very well and or Hawkins put it close for them on every hole.  It must have been both.  Second place went to the other guy Andrew Yeh and his team of Joel Reilly and Gary Denhalter with 61.  The threesome of  Tim Miller, Ralph Burton and Tom Durenberger shot a net 63.  Fourth went to the tournament director Pat “Smitty”, Ed Hoepfner and Manny Lira with a 64.  The shot of the tournament was turned in by Roger Mueller on the new par five 10th hole.  Since it was a scramble and he was hitting from the forward tees, the team used his drive, second shot and from 90yds out his third shot landed on the green and rolled in to a back cup for a great “eagle”.  Ralph Burton may have made the putt of the day on the par three number five with a 74 foot birdie as the last putter on the team.

THURSDAY:  HAWKINS TIES YEH THEN LOSES ON THE CARD

The two “fourtish” members of the MMGA played from the back, back tips at the Casa Blanca on Thursday and both shot identical scores on each side, 38-39-77.  Andrew Yeh didn’t seem as tired as Jon Hawkins was after playing and he said “ I win” comparing the first handicap hole on their cards to learn that he had a par to Hawkin’s bogey to snatch medalist from the older Hawkins.   Both played very well over 7,000yds back.  Hawkins did win the consolation prize of second low gross.  Roger Mueller continues to enjoy the forward tees as he played a very fine round of 42-40-82 to take first place low net honors with 68.  Tom Durenberger (85),  Pat Smitty (86) and Jim Naccarato (90) were all tied at net 70.  Naccarato earned number two with a par on the 5th hole.  Smitty took third with a bogey, bogey as Durenberger went bogey, double to fall into fourth.  Fifth place net was won by Bubba “surgery” Petrick (90) and net 74.  The last spot went to new member J.D. Mc Neil (85) and net 75.  The shot of the day was turned in by Andrew Yeh on the par four13th.   His second shot from 60 yds out, with a 60 degree wedge. bounced into the hole for a “sweet” eagle two.

The MMGA wish every reader a safe and warm Merry Christmas.
