Two separate brush fires in the same area of Mesquite kept Mesquite Fire Rescue crews busy over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The first fire was Saturday morning just after 5am and was reported in the area of Great Divide Trail and Clark Street in the Trailside Subdivision. Initial size ups put the fire at an area of 50’ x 100’ with flames reported 40 feet into the air. Responding firefighters were able to knock down the flames within 12 minutes of arrival. The fire was located in the heavy brush near the Virgin River and does not appear to have ever been a threat to nearby homes.
The second fire occurred Sunday morning at around 6:15am and was in the same area as the first near the Trailside Subdivision. Mesquite Fire Rescue Crews were again able to quickly knock down the fire and ensure there was no possibility of damage to nearby homes and utility services. “Since the origin was in the same area, we are conducting a thorough investigation,” said Fire Chief Kash Christopher, “the responding crews did an excellent job in mitigating the fire, yet kept the scene in-tact.”
