Where is the time going? It seems like just last week we were kicking off the abundant amounts of celebrations for the Fourth of July… and here it is, the end of October. Wow.
This weekend is sizing up to be quite exciting, and it all starts for pet owners today at Highland Manor, 272 Pioneer Blvd from 4 – 5 p.m. Dogs can get all dressed in their Halloween bests and bring their owners to Highland Manor for the Trick-or-Treat “Tail Gate” Parade. Yep, that’s right, all you decked out pups can join the fun and costume contest, who knows…you may even win a prize for best costume. All pups must be accompanied by their less furry family members and family members must be kept on a leash.
Tonight, at the Eureka Casino Resort at 275 Mesa Blvd is hosting their annual Shreeek-Reeka in the VIP parking area from 5 – 8 p.m. The Eureka Community Initiative is hosting the event in partnership with area charities, organizations and businesses. There will be interactive trick or treat booths, a 60-foot inflatable obstacle course for the little ones and a Haunted House in the Grand Canyon ballroom. There will also be a DJ on site providing music. The Eureka will be the place to be, however, all weekend, as they have parties and contests scheduled Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to dawn. Check out today’s ad on the back of section A for all the info.
Tomorrow, of course, is Halloween. Several local businesses are throwing their own parties and costume contests. The community is sure to show up for the 7th Annual Trunk or Treat event being held at the Mesquite Recreation Center, 100 W Old Mill Road again this year, with more businesses and candy predicted. The event is themed as Zombie Fright Night, scheduled for 5:30 – 7 p.m., which should be just in time for the kids to swarm the rest of the city. Please be sure to use caution if driving after dark on Friday, the darker costumes will make it nearly impossible to see without proper reflective gear.
The parties start hopping after dark for the adults too. In addition to the Eureka’s events,
Stateline Casino, 490 W. Mesquite Blvd, is promising to have the biggest Halloween party this year, with DJ # Juan offering his musical magic at 8 p.m. and a costume contest at 1 a.m.
Envy Night Club and Lounge, 792 W Pioneer Blvd, is hosting a Halloween Sexy Spooktacular night starting at 9 p.m. with no cover charge for ladies, and guys get in for free before 10:30 p.m.
Don’t stay out too late, though. Saturday morning will be quite busy for Mesquite as well as the community comes together to honor our Veterans.
With a memorial service beginning at 7:45 a.m. at the Cemetery, 301 Hillside Drive, and the annual parade to begin on W Mesquite Boulevard from Arrowhead Lane to Yucca Street at 9 a.m. This year’s Grand Marshall will be Pete Blair, a 24-year U.S. Army veteran who retired as a Lt. Colonel.
The Noon Chapter of Mesquite’s Rotary will then kick off their 8th Annual Glow in the Dark Golf Ball Drop at 3 p.m. with a car show, with other festivities kicking off at 4 p.m. in the Brickyard Plaza, 355 W Mesquite Boulevard. Local organizations will be on hand as well as a Chili Cook-off. The event is scheduled to go until about 6:30 p.m.
