To the Editor:
The upcoming midterm election is important for more reasons than just the partisan political positions that will be on the ballot. Of major concern to us, locally, should be the election of seats on the Overton Power District (OPD) Board of Trustees. This is our opportunity to select the best candidates, who will serve us, the ratepayers, in our best interest.
Bill Hurd is one of those candidates. As an electrical engineer with many years of management experience, Bill is well qualified to serve as a highly capable and effective trustee. After attaining a Ph. D. in electrical engineering, Bill spent over 40 years in the aerospace industry as a systems engineer and manager, expertly leading teams in research and development and system engineering. During his career, he developed a rapport of mutual respect between himself and the teams he managed, and he was well respected by his peers.
Though he can rely on his past education, his employment background and his management skills and abilities to be an effective OPD trustee, Bill has continued to educate himself about energy issues relevant to our current and future needs. Recently, he attended the annual meeting of the Nevada Rural Electric Association to expand his knowledge of providing electricity in rural areas.
Bill’s knowledge and experience, coupled with his moderate views on future energy production and transmission make him the best qualified candidate for seat #7 on the board of trustees. The ratepayers deserve trustees who will act in their best interest and work to hold our energy prices in line, and Bill fits that description well.
Please join me in voting for Bill Hurd for OPD Trustee #7.
