JORDAN – YEH TIED AGAIN

The Dave Jordan/Andrew Yeh saga continues and, as they did last Tuesday at Falcon Ridge, they tied again with each player shooting a quiet 78.  Yeh was low on the front nine with an even par 35 to Jordan’s 37.

Yeh reluctantly started his round on the dreaded par-three 17th hole and it buried him immediately.  He recorded a quadruple bogey (7) and before he could recover he scored a double bogey six on hole 18.  Jordan had little or no sympathy when he heard Yeh’s sob story in the clubhouse, especially when he found out that they had tied and then Yeh took the low gross title with a par on the first handicap hole as Jordan three putted from just off the green on the same hole.  Terry Gardner shot another impressive round of 80 and net 67 to edge out visiting Marv Gielen (89) and Tom Durenberger (81) by one shot for low net.  Dick Swayne just came back from vacation and managed to score three birdies on his way to third place low gross with a 79.  He killed the rumor that your first round back from vacation is always a “downer”.  Dan Trower (93) and net 69 tied Swayne for 4th low net.

“BRUCE ALMIGHTY”

Remember the movie of the same title?  Well Bruce Herd of the MMGA shot his best round of golf in Mesquite and his second best in his life.  The MMGA teed it up at the Palmer golf course on this Thursday and several players played very well led by Bruce Herd’s 39-36-75 aided by three birdies.  His score was the second best gross score and earned him first place low net with 61.  Once again the “longing in tooth” Ron Manthey who hadn’t played in several weeks with the group came out and won medalist by three shots over Herd and five shots over Andrew Yeh’s 77. Manthey had an unusual round because it included three straight birdies on holes four, five and six for a one-under par 34 on the front and one birdie on 12 on the back for a 38. Great rounds Bruce and Ron!! Pat Smitty burned the course with a pair of 39’s for his best round in awhile netting second low net with a 64.  In total six players recorded gross rounds in the 70’s and it was about time.  Lira did not play well but managed to retain his first place in the “Fed Ex” net summer tournament with a 294 point lead over Don Mannon.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, Aug 5th at Falcon Ridge at 7:00 and Thursday, Aug 7th at 7:30 at Conestoga.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
