Dear Editor:
Do you care about the Virgin River, responsible water use, and basic fairness? If so, please pay attention. MAGA Republicans in my state (Utah) are working to continue stealing Colorado River water that Nevada is entitled to receive. They do this by diverting water that would otherwise flow into the Colorado River and without approval under the Colorado River Compact/Law of the River. Their latest proposed boondoggle is called the Cove Reservoir project. With mostly federal funds, it would divert Virgin River water behind a new dam and reservoir. This water would then be used for new incredibly wasteful summer alfalfa growing and to enable more unsustainable urban sprawl. This project does not respect climate change, already severe water shortages, and the need for equitable sharing of the increasingly limited Colorado River water. If you share my outrage, please tell your elected officials to oppose this project. And please vote blue to help stop this endless MAGA Republican corruption.
