MESQUITE, NV January 28, 2026 — The Mesquite Police Department is pleased to announce the official appointment of Tracy Fails as the Chief of Police. The Mesquite City Council voted to approve the appointment on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Chief Fails has served as the Interim Chief of Police for the past fourteen months, where his dedication and leadership have been instrumental in guiding the department. This permanent appointment is a testament to his service and the respect he has earned from the entire department.
With 29 years of dedicated service to the Mesquite Police Department and prior law enforcement experience in Utah, Chief Fails brings a wealth of knowledge to the position. Throughout his distinguished career in Mesquite, he has held nearly every rank and position, including Sergeant, Lieutenant, Jail Commander, and Captain. His experience spans various specialized areas, including patrol, investigations, SWAT team, firearms instruction, and range master. His comprehensive background has prepared him for the responsibilities of leading the department.
Chief Fails has garnered overwhelming support from the department, city leadership, and the community. We look forward to the future under Chief Fails’ leadership as we continue our work to ensure the City of Mesquite remains the best and safest community possible.
