It’s that time of year again! You know… the one where you get out all of the decor that you shoved in the box haphazardly last year.

The one where you invite friends and foes over to your home. And the one where you max out all 5 of your credit cards!

I am just kidding. Hopefully, this will not be your Christmas experience. It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season and miss the beauty of it. The reality is that you will not be here on this earth forever, so with that in mind, I shall share two things to consider this season.

First, don’t let the small things get to you. The meal doesn’t look as good as you hoped. So what? The kids or grandkids are a little loud. Most kids are. What I am saying is take things in stride. Instead of finding yourself all worked up, just take a deep breath and take this opportunity to be thankful for family, friends, and a multitude of other blessings God has given you.

Second, would you take time to consider the actual purpose of this holiday? We all see the manger scenes and think, “How cute and sweet.” But when was the last time that you thought about the reason that Babe in the manger came in the first place?

The reason that He came was to fulfill the Father’s will. The Father’s will, as laid out in Scripture, was that He (Jesus) would come to die on the cross and be gloriously raised again so that all those who place their faith in Him might have eternal life.

Don’t find yourself getting so caught up in holiday plans that you do not consider the estate of your soul. It is so much sweeter this time of year when you are able to reflect on the true reason for the season.

We all have much to be thankful for, but the greatest reason to be thankful is that Jesus Chirst, God incarnate–the second member of the blessed Trinity–became man so that we might be reconciled to God!

I pray that we all would take time to thank God for all that He has done. And for the one that has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, that they would do so today.

May this Christmas be the most blessed of all as we join with the angels praising God for what great things He has done!
